Loddon Reach Magazine Articles
My goodness, no sooner does autumn arrive than it seems Christmas is close on its tail!
It feels like I was only writing about Harvest and apple days just yesterday and now I am writing about all things Christmassy.
We have just started unpacking our Christmas deliveries which is always great fun. I have to confess, though, the shopping part of it isn’t as much fun as I thought it would be. Our main supplier stocks a huge amount of items, which can make us feel somewhat glazed over after hours of trawling through their website trying to find items we think our customers will like, at the right prices.
Once that box arrives though, it is all forgotten and comments such as “ooh I love that” or “we should have ordered more of those” and “that’s bigger than I thought!” can be heard from the end of the shop.
Our Christmas shopping evening is being held on Thursday 17th November from 6.00pm to 8.30pm. We have new stallholders with some beautiful products and we will make sure there are plenty of tasters and Christmas meal ideas, as well as mince pies and carols to get you in the mood.
There has also been much excitement about something else this month. The shop has launched its new website. We are so happy with its new look. We have renamed the website to make it easier, as the other address was rather long! (Full blame for that goes to my brother who helped me set up the initial web addresses and shop name!)
Our new website address is www.bhvshop.co.uk. We would love you all to have a look and tell us what you think. We have a new products section which will take you to our order form which can be completed and sent to us ready for collection the following day. The Christmas order forms are also on the website, the cheese orders will need to be in to the shop very soon to ensure they reserve enough for us, so have a look as soon as possible if you would like any of the local cheese we stock from Two Hoots Cheese and Village Maid.
We even have a section with all our Loddon Reach articles archived! Actually, maybe not all of them as there are an awful lot, but we are slowly but surely getting more and more of them uploaded.
New products to look out for this month include edamame spaghetti, another winner for the gluten free gang, which tastes delicious. It’s also a winner for those watching their weight, as it contains no carbohydrate, turning a spag bol into a healthy, no carb, high protein meal. We sadly lost our ham supplier when the company went into receivership so we are working on finding a new, even tastier source. Let us know what you think as we try out various different suppliers and makes of ham in an effort to find that perfect slice.
In Butterfields café, the homemade soup is selling fast and our toastie specials always go down well. We even had a customer order the bacon, banana and brie one – he said it was delicious.
Suma, our wholefood supplier, delivered a yummy organic curry sauce base this week and their suggestion was to put it in a cheese toastie. So you may find we have to try that out on the Specials board sometime soon.
As always, thank you for your custom. Continue spreading the word about us because that is by far our best advert and, even after being open three years, we get customers saying “I have been meaning to pop in but haven’t” and they are always pleasantly surprised by what we stock.
We are very child friendly, with toys for the little ones and we are now also dog friendly. We found out that, actually, it is up to the management’s discretion to allow dogs into an eating outlet. So we decided we love dogs and they should join their owners in the café area, as long as they are on leads and don’t take themselves off into the shop to do a bit of shopping!
Good luck with your Christmas shopping and, if you need a bit of peace amongst the mayhem this season brings, pop along to our church and recharge those batteries.
